Holiday hairstyles will have a
retro-romantic look, say experts.
Ladies, abandon your beloved straightening irons and
make room for curling irons! Experts are predicting a return to
Hollywood glamour this winter holiday season.
"The tousled, flirty curls we've come to love
will evolve into more polished looks that evoke sensual sophistication,"
says hair care expert Marc Anthony, whose Marc Anthony True Professional
hair care products are available in drug stores throughout the U.S.
According to Anthony, who has styled hair for such
celebrities as Catherine Zeta-Jones, the newly refined silhouettes
appearing on runways and red carpets around the world have inspired
the retro-romantic hairstyle that he envisions for the 2004 winter
holiday season.
"Flattering for so many women, the look of '30s
and '40s Hollywood elegance is perfect for holiday celebrations,
when you're looking for a splash of added glitz," he says.
Look for these holiday hairstyle trends:
• Sophisticated, polished waves and curls, softly
framing the face for a chic new take on retro Hollywood glamour.
• Rich colors in a deep, new palette of reds
and mahogany tones. All shades of blondes, reds or brunettes will
be infused with enticing caramel and copper hues for a more sophisticated
vibe.
• Hair that "kisses" your shoulders,
with mid-length layers and slightly off-centered fringes.
To achieve these glamorous holiday hairdos, follow
these expert tips:
• Styling: After shampooing and conditioning,
apply a quarter-sized amount of Curl Defining Lotion and spray Curl
Booster on wet hair before styling (from the Marc Anthony Strictly
Curls line). Dry hair upside down with a diffuser, gently squeezing
dry to create as much natural movement as possible. Leave hair slightly
wet to avoid over-drying and to create a more polished finish.
• Finish the Look: Use a medium- to large-barrel
curling iron for curling a few sections in the crown to layer over
your style, creating a more romantic feeling of cascading tendrils
for emphasis.
• Holiday Hair: Create a chic evening look with
your curls by taking sections at the back of your already-styled
hair and rolling them under, tucking and pinning at the nape for
the illusion of shorter hair. Allow the tendrils at the crown to
fall freely over the top of the pinned up sections.
