The third annual Cinema Indio Festival will run from
November 18 through the 22nd at the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood.
This year’s line up once again put into focus the best crop
of Filipino-themed features, documentaries, shorts and animated
films.
A drama thriller starring Lara Fabregas kicks off
the Festival on Thursday, November 18.
The short feature written and directed by two-time
Student Academy Award winner Hubert Cheng, is in full color and
runs for 22 minutes. Lara is a patrol guard inside a mall who is
driven to near madness by her own fears. The suspense thriller is
twin billed by Krista Gabriela Dalena’s documentary Alingawngaw
ng mga Punglo/Echo of Bullets, the docu which won the second prize
in the recently-concluded 2004 CCP Awards in Manila. Alingawngaw/Echo
discusses the grim human rights situation in the region. It seeks
to let the voices of the victims be heard. Their anguished cry for
justice and call for lasting peace.
Movie buffs will also get to watch Adarna, the first
full-length animated Filipino film
And another acclaimed feature, Magnifico which was the won the Grand
Jury prize - the Crystal Bear Award in the 2004 Berlin International
Film Festival Kinderfilmfest in Germany for best picture and best
actor for Jiro Manio.
Unitel International has also submitted Crying Ladies,
the 2003 Metro Manila FilmFest winner starring Sharon Cuneta, Hilda
Koronel and Angel Aquino. The picture is the official Philippine
entry for the 2005 Academy Awards. Cinema Indio closes on Monday,
November 22, with Imelda, the documentary which won for excellence
in cinematography in the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. It is also
vying for an Oscar in the documentary category.
