Casting call for the new musical ‘Imelda’

LOS ANGELES-The premiere Asian American theater East West Players has announced a casting call for the world premiere of Imelda, a new musical based on the book of Sachi Oyama.

The musical, to be directed by Tim Dang, will feature music by Nathan Wang with lyrics by Aaron Coleman. Rehearsals begin April 5, 2005 and preview begins May 5, 2005. The new musical will open on May 11, 2005 and close on June 5, 2005.

East West Players is seeking Filipino/Asian American triple threats who can sing, act and dance well for the following roles: Imelda Marcos, Filipina/Asian American female, plays from 20s-50s, wife of Ferdinand Marcos, beauty contestant, charming, sense of determination and sense of humor, expressive demeanor with much subtext, larger than life, alto/mezzo, must also dance. Physical resemblance to Imelda Marcos in her 30s is a plus. Ferdinand Marcos, Filipino/Asian American male, plays from 20s-50s, president of the Phillipines, strong, earthbound, good mover, charismatic, handsome, baritone. Physical resemblance to Ferdinand Marcos in his 30s is a plus.

Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Filipino/Asian American male, plays from 20s-50s, Senator trying to defeat Marcos, strong, good mover, high baritone, once infatuated with Imelda. Physical resemblance to Benigno Aquino in his 30s a plus. Corazon Aquino, Filipino/Asian American female, plays from 30s-50s, wife of Ninoy, later to succeed Ferdinand Marcos as the president of the Philippines, deep alto. Physical resemblance to Corazon Aquino in her 30s is a plus.

Veri, Filipina/Asian American female, muse, 20s, full name Veritas Vida, to play various roles such as beauty contestant, Blue Lady Adoracion, peasant mother, boy, Voter 1, high belt, must also dance. Luz, Filipina/Asian American female, muse, 20s, full name Luz Lugero, to play various roles such as beauty contestant, Blue Lady Concepcion, newscaster, boy, Voter 2, alto, must also dance
